Cuba is in a dire situation. COVID-19 is spreading widely throughout the population, primarily in the larger cities. The tourist trade (beaches, hotels, and foreign visitors) is virtually non-existent. One news report stated that overall visits to the Island are down about 95 percent from 2019. The multi-national trade embargo has effectively crushed the economy, totally impoverishing nearly the entire general population. Food rationing and hunger are evident everywhere. Medicine and primary health care have dwindled to a trickle.
In other words, a perfect storm of disaster has hit this Caribbean island of 6 million people. Not even during the darkest days of the Communist Revolution in 1959 or the collapse of the Soviet Union in the early 1990s which ended Cuban aid, have the people been left with less hope and more suffering.
Our urgent support is needed to provide compassionate aid at this critical time.
